Melbourne – Senior UI Artist

IMPORTANT: Please note you will need to have working rights in Australia. At this stage, we cannot sponsor a working visa. This is an in-person, on-location, in-studio position.

Big Ant Studios is seeking a visionary Senior UI Artist to help define the visual future of our titles. As a premier developer of global sports titles, we need a leader who can translate the high-stakes energy of professional sports into world-class, data-rich user interfaces.
This is a chance to set the standard for some of the biggest sports franchises on console and PC.

You will be a cornerstone of the production team, partnering directly with the Art Director, UX and UI Developers to establish the visual language for our titles. Beyond your own design work, you will act as a mentor to our UI team, ensuring that high-concept designs are technically viable and executed to the highest standard.

You are a seasoned professional who balances creative flair with technical prowess. You are determined to push the boundaries of what sports UI can be, flexible enough to lead a team through shifting technical constraints, and possess an expert-level understanding of global UX trends.

How to Stand Out:

At the Senior level, we look for systemic thinkers. To stand out, your portfolio should demonstrate how you have built or managed a comprehensive UI Design System or Style Guide. We want to see how you solved complex architecture problems (e.g., managing deep stats for a career mode) across an entire project lifecycle.

Core Areas of Focus:

  • Architectural Strategy: Designing and overseeing scalable UI systems and frameworks that work across multiple platforms and deep-sim sports titles.
  • Creative Direction: Defining the “Broadcast Look”—creating high-fidelity overlays, HUDs, and motion graphics that rival professional TV sports presentations.
  • Pipeline Optimisation: Collaborating with UI Developers to refine the implementation pipeline, ensuring our tools and assets are as efficient as they are beautiful.
  • Mentorship & Standards: Setting the quality bar for the UI team. You will provide feedback, share knowledge, and help elevate the craft of our Junior and Mid-level artists.

Experience Required:

  • 5+ Years in Games: A proven track record with at least one (ideally multiple) shipped AAA or high-fidelity titles in a UI-heavy role.
  • Expert Toolkit: Mastery of Figma, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator is a baseline; you should also be comfortable defining how these tools are used within a team.
  • Visual Mastery: An expert-level understanding of typography, colour theory, and information hierarchy, particularly regarding complex data visualisation.
  • Full Lifecycle Experience: Proven ability to take a project from initial UX wireframes through to final polished implementation.

Bonus Experience:

  • Technical Implementation: Deep familiarity with XAML, C#, or implementation within Unreal Engine/Unity.
  • Motion & 3D: Advanced experience with After Effects or 3D software (Blender/Maya) to create dynamic, living interfaces.

You also need to be:

  • Flexible & Open-Minded: You lead by example, embracing feedback and pivoting your strategy based on playtest data and technical requirements.
  • Driven & Accountable: You take high-level ownership of the UI department’s output, ensuring every feature is polished and performance-optimised.
  • Solution-Oriented: You don’t just identify blockers; you design the way around them. You thrive on the technical complexities of data-rich design.
  • Detail-Obsessed: You are the final gatekeeper for quality, ensuring every icon and transition is on-brand and feels like a premium broadcast experience.
  • A Creative Navigator: You innovate within the constraints of sports simulation, finding clever ways to make massive amounts of data feel intuitive and exciting.
